Education For All People – The Advantages of Tourism in Education
Tourism is an important and very powerful tool for promoting national integration and bringing people closer to different parts of the country or sub-continents. The benefits of tourism are remarkable if it accompanies an education. Traveling is considered the most enjoyable experience in student life. People have enjoyed and learned a lot during their educational trips. Students eagerly await this kind of opportunity when they are removed from the four walls of classrooms to distant locations. The English do not consider their complete schooling until after a tour of the continent.
Geography is considered a very dull and uninspiring subject if it is read in classrooms and just through various books. The Great Ganges can be considered as a snake line running along the map. The Taj Mahal can be considered a monument, like many others without visiting it. The dull subject of geography will inevitably become interesting and absorbing once these places of interest are visited by students. The story is very boring for students as they view it as a story of dead kings and their kingdom period and that will not pay anything to students today. However, if students are frequently brought to the sites of glories and defeats, architectural masterpieces built during the times of these great dead monarchs, the subject of history becomes more interesting and exciting than any other subject.
Really, we can learn many more things when we come into contact or see such things or sites associated with such events. Sitting at home only will make our perspective close. Any student will fail to understand the effect of the environment on the lives of human beings. In everyday life, reading and acquiring isolated theoretical knowledge can not succeed to any student. They must know the habits, customs, cultures and way of life of people in other places. Traveling takes students into the realm of practical knowledge. They descend to the reality of the realm of dreams and imagination. While traveling, students learn to adapt to new living and walking conditions and the environment. The different and varied difficulties encountered during the trip make the students easily adjustable. As such, tourism gives much more valuable lessons to students than textbook lessons.
There was a time when crossing the seas to acquire higher education was considered highly sacrilegious. Trips abroad have not been encouraged. It was that kind of ostrich mentality that thought of the worst kind of intellectual stagnation and caused an ignominious downfall in the country. However, now, in free India, students have become aware of the need to learn more languages and acquire a higher education in the latest technologies. The last way to learn a new language and understand different culture is to live and more among the people we want to know. The learning of Chinese language and culture is the best possible if one lives in China for a short time rather than taking longer courses in the institutions of our country only. Learning a foreign language is the first step towards understanding a nation. International understanding is possible for the students of our country by taking tourist packages all over the world.
A student must keep his eyes and mind open during his educational visits. Tourism provides an experience of the world and calls for action and the practical use of various qualities of mind and intellect developed by education. Tact, endearing personality, firmness and lively conversation are some of the products of traveling across the length and breadth of the country and the world. A student does not need to initiate the habits, manners or fashions of other people that he or she visits. Only the right attitudes must be adopted by others. The student must understand the economic problems faced by rural people when he goes to the villages and see how, without proper schools and hospitals, people survive. Students can make the decision to serve the poor and innocent in the villages after completing their studies.
Travel must be part of the education system at every level of education. Students will not only be more educated about all the backgrounds and cultures of their country, but they will have a liberal vision. They will have a maturity of justice and a clear understanding of people and their spirit. Tourism is the fastest and the best, if not the cheapest way to learn new things.
